Pile up in Albert Park

Pile up in Albert Park

F1 has banned traction control and engine braking this year and what do we have, a real car pile at the Albert park, with just one third of the cars making it to the chequred flag.

The Red Bastion has indeed beed rattled. How many times do we see both the Feraris resting (in peace). I have always felt Filipe drives with his heart (not his head) and thus can be forgiven for getting carried away. Relax Filipe this car won"t handle the way last year"s did, there is going to be lot of under steer and you can"t brake late comming into the curves. But what about Kimi? Agreed he  had his share of bad luck, with the car ditching him in the qualifier. But what I fail to understand is the fact that, after doing all the hard work (the way he usually does) and reaching no.3, there was no need to attempt that over taking on Heikki, That too when he was on a single pit stop strategy. That was un pardonable. Well well even the Ice-man some times loses his cool. Keep your cool Kimi, you are still my favourite. I think this must have been the worst (or one of the worst) day for Ferari. Imagine not even one, I repeat, not even one Ferari engined car (there were six, Ferari, Toro Roso and Force India) made it to the chequred flag.

It was the perfect week-end for Lewis and Ron Dennis" smile only confirmed it. After all the pressure they have been through, Mclaren has shown why it is one of the most respected (not counting the colour blind population, who can see only scarlet) team in F1. If Timo-Glock had not crashed his other wise superb debut, Mclaren would have been 1-2 on the podium. Hard luck Heikki you had to pit when the safety car drove out. But you have made your mark.

Finally Nico Roseburg got an oppertunity to prove his worth and enthusiasm of the Williams team was worth watching. After all it was after some time (after 2005) they have a driver on the Podium. Hats off to Sir William for picking Nico, but again I can"t imagine why Nakajima? Last race (Brazil 2007) he knocked down one of their pit crew, this time Robert Kubica was the target.

Torro Roso also had it bad. With good strategy  Sebastien Bourdais was about to be within championship points when the Ferari engine conked. Just 3 more laps to go. But there are many a slips between the cup and the lip. Still, it is remarkable hwo the old Minardi has shaped up.

One thing is for sure, the new regulations have made the race more exciting, even though as an engineer I would not appriciate any curbs on technology. It was  really interesting to watch Fernando and Heikki fight it out, similarly the fight between Rubens and Kimi ......

Well folks hope all of you enjoyed the pile up. I think teams will be heading to the garage and drawing boards now. Let us hope they pour the money in the wind tunnel and test track and not into some lawyers pocket.

For guys who hoped some action from Force India,
It is the same Midland or Spykar team guys, managed by the same people. Just a new can of paint won"t improve things. With luck Fisi might be able to pull something up this season. Then it will be because it is Fisi behind the wheels and not because of the team. Today"s newspaper says (VM has said), they have hired three wind tunnels and are also consutling Aero experts. Let us wait and watch.
